Dear CCS Community,

We had quite a busy and exciting end to the school year, including our wonderful Drive-Thru Farewell Parade last week.  Once again, thank you everyone who attended that unique event!  We had so much happening at the end of the year that we need to share yet another Newsletter with you! This Newsletter highlights our final awards assembly, some amazing projects students worked on throughout the semester, and some of the ways we had fun together to finish off the year.  This Newsletter highlights our CCS values – Continuing to be engaged throughout home learning; Our silly but passionate Community; Community through continued collaboration even while online; Balance through wellbeing and sports; and great DT projects to enhance our Respect for the local environment.  Enjoy this last showcase on learning!

Also, you can enjoy a look back on the full year in our CCS 2019-2020 Yearbook.  It can be viewed on the website or downloaded/printed as a PDF.  Thank you to Mr. Punto and all of the teachers and students who contributed to the Yearbook!

I am so proud of our full community for how everyone kept engaged, stayed positive and resilient, and came together this semester.  Now I hope we all have a restful and energizing holiday, whether here in Bali or elsewhere.  Please do watch for continued updates from CCS about plans for next school year and exciting times ahead!

CCS Secondary Final Assembly

On Wednesday the 17th of June. The Secondary school had its final assembly of the year. It was an opportunity to honour the amazing work of our students through the presentation of a huge range of awards including, High academic distinction awards, SWLE awards, CCS Values awards, Athletics, Design & Technology, & Science fair! Congratulations to all those students who got awards, and well done to all our students who have worked so hard this year. If you missed the assembly. You can watch it here on Youtube.

An awesome feature of the CCS Secondary Assembly was the Talent Show. A spin-off of our popular annual X-Factor. The student acts were amazing. Congratulations to Saul from Year 7 who claimed 1st place with his superb rendition of Boney M’s ‘Rasputin’, Second place was claimed by none other than Connor Bradley from Year 12 who did a fantastic cover of ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ and third place was claimed by Year 7’s Zahari Fine who sang Plain White T’s ‘Hey There Delilah’. Well done you guys and well done to all students who submitted their acts. You can watch the high definition of the recording here.

A final visual treat from the assembly was the teacher Lip Synch performance. This was in honour of our students who have worked so hard this year at CCS who may not be joining us in the new school year. Thank you for all you have given to our wonderful school and we wish you all the best in the future. Please come back and visit when you can. Here is the video. Thank you to all the teachers who took part and to all our teachers for their incredibly hard work over the last term.

Have a wonderful and restful holiday everyone!

Year 9 Flatpack home learning project

Mr Keegan

Check out CCS Design Technology! The DT team was flexible during this online learning time. Year 9 students carefully designed “flat-pack” desk organizers and the programme for cutting them. Mr Green and Pak Kadek arranged to cut them in our DT shop and then sent them to the kids for assembly at home. Check out the video summary of their project and final products. What an awesome accomplishment during this “home learning” time! Even during virtual learning, CCS makes learning and engagement happen!

Symbiotic Sustainable Solution

Mr Green

This year saw the first completion of the Program of Sustainable Design in years 10 and 11. Over the course of the 2 years, one of the key focuses was on the major project of creating a sustainable solution. This year’s group was faced with the question of how they could improve the environmental footprint of CCS. One of the issues we looked into was the water usage at school and how this is affecting the depleted aquifer in Bali. Several solutions were explored and the Spiral Water Wheel designed by Isabella Jones in year 11, shown here is one of them. Once we began working on these projects it became obvious that there was a clear link between Isabella’s Water Wheel, Roberta Tunesi’s Water Filter and Anna Enrione’s Vertical Garden. As the projects grew from research to design and finally into construction, the idea of linking them and making a full system that could potentially provide a perpetually irrigated vertical garden with filters to remove pollutants from the river water was born. Due to COVID-19, the students were unable to put the final touches on their projects, however, as you will see in the video it would only be necessary to do some final tweaking and assembly in order for the projects to be complete. The Design Technology Department decided to do the final assembly and put the projects into practice. These are functioning models to show that with research and hard work some of our local environmental issues can be improved if not solved. The movies below take you through some of the processes the students followed to create these Sustainable Solutions.  As this program develops we will be sharing more of this type of content in the hope that these models inspire others to implement similar projects to lessen the environmental impact we are making on Bali.

CCS SCIENCE FAIR 2020

Mr Graham

https://sites.google.com/ccsbali.com/2020-main-page/home

Covid-19 couldn’t stop us having our annual science fair. This year students worked at home investigating a wide range of topics from making ice cream, cakes and muffins, to bacteria on surfaces and in the water or mould growing on food, to paper aeroplanes and flight simulators. It was great looking through the variety of projects students had worked so hard on. The projects this year showed great innovation and creativity and the science department staff all enjoyed marking and comparing the students’ efforts.

Congratulations to the following medal recipients:

CCS Sport Review – 2019/20

Mr Steve & PE Team

Despite the many challenges faced this term, it has still been a very successful sporting year for CCS. The BSSA football season ended with 3 CCS teams taking home trophies, many teams making it to the Finals and great progress made across the board. This year’s BSSA volleyball season must be one of the most successful on record! On Junior Finals Day, CCS teams won 7 of the 8 first-place trophies. This was followed up with a further 3 out of 4 first-place trophies on Senior Finals Day! We should also be extremely proud of the incredible student participation during that season, a total of 17 teams and 128 students across the school. Before it’s the unfortunate end, prior to the Finals events, the BSSA basketball season was also going very well. Students made excellent progress and many were looking forward to showcasing their skills in the Finals competitions.

The major school events of the year were the CCS Swimming Carnivals. As always, it was great to see so many students, staff and family members present. All students did a great job of demonstrating their swimming skills and the PE department again thanks to the whole CCS community for their support during these events. Our BSSA Swim Squad made an excellent start to their training under new Head Coach, Pak Danendra. We were also very proud to introduce Year 12 students, Laura Pet and M Wheeler as Assistant Coaches. We look forward to many more fun events and training sessions in our new pool next year!

Well done to the House Captains for organising a number of fun sporting events throughout the year in the secondary school. Thank you also to Mr Woof, Mr Adam, Mr Wayan and all other primary staff involved in the organisation and running of House Sports activities in the primary school.

This term, house spirit has been kept alive with the help of PE challenges and the first-ever virtual CCS Athletics Carnival Week! Again, a big thank you goes to the CCS community for your participation and support in these initiatives. Below you can find results from these events, as well as the winners of our prestigious ‘Overall Athlete’ awards. These are given to only one boy and one girl per year group across our secondary school. A big well did gom to all of our winning houses and individual award winners!

A final thank you goes to all members of the PE department, volunteer coaches, game day chaperones, teaching staff, maintenance staff, cleaning staff, admin staff, FoCCS and parents. Without your support, it would not be possible to provide such a wide range of sporting opportunities for our students. We hope you all enjoy a well earned holiday and we’ll look forward to welcoming you back to our exciting new PE facilities as soon as we can!

LOTE – French

Ms Nathalie

Chicken Fricassé

Roberta Tunesi, Year 11.

For one of the projects in our French class, Eliza and I had to choose a traditional French dish that interested us which we would be willing to cook. After looking through many recipes we chose the chicken fricassee, we picked this dish because not only did it look delicious but it also seemed fairly easy to prepare. Making the chicken fricassee was actually a lot harder than expected as we didn’t have many of the necessary cooking utensils, however, we still managed. It actually turned out really good and we were able to enjoy this amazing dish with all our friends!
