Dear CCS Community,
Welcome to our first CCS Newsletter – Home Learning Edition! This newsletter will highlight interesting learning happening as well as some of the many activities and social opportunities we aim to provide our students in this unique time. Our CCS values are the same in this context – we still value learning, engagement, balance, and respect. Student learning is continuing, albeit with more technology and your continued support at home. We aim to keep students engaged and connected to teachers and their peers.
Balance is especially important right now, including staying physically active and stepping away from the community – this newsletter will show some examples.
Finally, we value respecting yourself and others. That is especially important when isolating and in times of stress.
Items in the newsletter are mostly products made by our students and teachers as we adjust to home learning. They certainly won’t be perfect! That is part of learning and respecting yourself – doing your best in challenging circumstances. Thank you to those students who shared their interesting products! We will be sharing more via our Instagram and Facebook accounts daily. Please follow those for regular updates and a glimpse into what home learning is looking like for our CCS students and families.
Best Regards,
Keegan Combs

Dear CCS Parents,
The following CCS ASA music teachers are offering online private music lessons:
If you are interested, please contact any of the above teachers directly. These online music lessons are not sponsored by CCS and we cannot assist with scheduling nor payment arrangements. Teachers may feel the need to set different rates and schedules in these new circumstances; parents and teachers will need to reach agreement on a case-by-case basis. We encourage all parents to take an active role in monitoring their child’s extracurricular activities, particularly when these activities take place online.
We can, however, strongly recommend these individuals as musicians and teachers. Most have worked at CCS for quite some time; all have passed the requisite legal background checks to work with children and all are currently in good standing at CCS. Last week, they attended a training workshop specific to online music teaching. We are confident that the lessons they provide will be challenging and meaningful.
If you have any further questions, you can contact our secondary music teacher Steffen. His email is [email protected].
“Birthday parties still being celebrated.” – Ms Beth.
“You can not get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make”, Jane Goodall.

Nika learned to dance at home, one of the dances from West Sumatra called Tari Piring (Plate Dance). Nika and her mother dance together and they are very happy doing it. In the same time, they learned to know Indonesia from dance. Thank you Nika and mom for sharing this to the community. We love it! – Ms Rusmala.
Tari Piring is a traditional Minangkabau plate dance from West Sumatra, Indonesia. The dance might be performed by a group of women, men or couples, each of them holds plates in each hand, and vigorously rotate or half rotate them in various formations and fast movements. The dance demonstrates the skill of the dancers that manage balance and to move the ceramics plate swiftly without dropping or breaking the plates. This dance is usually performed as a ceremonial welcoming dance to honour the guests and elders to a traditional ceremony.
Year 7 English – BOOKmarks video
BOOKmarks is an independent reading project that students do in my lessons: a mix of reading and creativity! – Ms Caffrey.
In Week 1 of Distance Learning, I challenged the Year 8s and 9s of Drama to create a costume for a character of their choosing out of items from their closets and around the house. Students then voted on a Google Form for whose costume was the most creative – the results came down to the wire with some ties in first, second, and third place. – Ms Delbridge.
Here are some creative costumes:
Last week, students from Years 7 to 12 have been trying to climb the Eiffel Tower at home as part of this week’s PE Weekly Fitness Challenge. To go with this the Mathematics Department has set a challenge based on the accuracy and limitations of the measurements obtained. We are looking forward to seeing who has climbed the highest and who has analysed the Mathematics to the greatest degree.
This week, the Year 7 maths students will be attempting to find the number of tiles it took to complete the new swimming pool on the primary campus. Mr Collins introduces the assessment task with this video.
CCS Maths Challenge Week 2 – Mr Collins introduces this weeks maths challenge and reveals the best answer to last weeks problem. Send your answers to Mr Collins – [email protected] before next Monday. Good Luck.

Once upon a time, you may remember that we started and very nearly finished a BSSA basketball season. It seems like so long ago now!
Everyone involved from the students to the coaches and chaperones made excellent contributions to the season’s success. I would like to thank and congratulate you all for your efforts, and I hope that you can take some comfort in the knowledge that all of our 11-12Y to 13-15Y teams would have made it to the Finals competition.
We would still also like to celebrate the achievements of the individual students who made outstanding contributions to their team’s through our customary MVP and Coach’s Awards. These people are listed above and should all have received a digital copy of their certificate via their school Gmail account. A big well done goes to all of you!
As always, thank you to the whole CCS community for your support throughout the season. We are all missing BSSA practices and events, but I hope you are all looking forward to getting going again as soon as we can.
Stay active, stay healthy, and take care, everyone!
Mr Steve
We would like to present the Class of 2020 Virtual Leaver’s Assembly. At Canggu Community School, it is a tradition that seniors on their last day of school give out awards to their teachers to show their appreciation. Even though we aren’t at school anymore because of the worldwide pandemic, we still wanted to present these awards to our hardworking teachers at CCS. Thanks For Tuning into our Leaver’s Assembly.
Last week, Year 13 have been taking part in Resilience Week, organized by Ms. Bella, Mr. Baccanello and Mr. Henson. They have been completing a ‘Preparing for College Life’ online course, cooking recipes lovingly provided by their IB teachers, as well as inputting their own recipes into their ‘Post-Secondary Life Cookbook’. This is a Cookbook they can refer to when they are by themselves in the big wide world.
They have been learning self-defence moves and posting evidence of the learning through videos.
We hope they feel well-prepared to go out into the world (as soon as they are able to travel and do so!).
