Dear CCS Parents and Community,

A big well done to all students who participated in the annual CCS Swimming Carnivals last week. It was great to see your spirit, enthusiasm and swimming skills in abundance across the four events. A special well done to our winning houses and to the students who won the ‘Best Swimmer’ awards. A big thank you goes to all CCS staff involved in the organisation, promotion and supervision of the carnivals, without your support we could not run these fantastic events. Thank you to FOCCS for providing students with juice and to all other parents, guardians, relatives etc. for coming out and supporting the students. Next term we look forward to the CCS Cross-Country Run and Athletics Carnivals, we hope to see you all there!

Bali’s Biggest Clean-Up – Team CCS! Overview

By Emma Urban and Beth Ibrahim

This past Saturday morning, approximately 40 CCS students, parents, and teachers gathered on Pantai Berawa to participate in the annual Bali’s Biggest Clean Up, hosted by the organization One Island, One Voice.

According to OIOV’s website, “Over the past three years, the movement has gathered 45,000 people in 325 locations & prevented 135 tons of plastic from entering our oceans.” Though the beach is in much better condition currently due to the lack of rain in the area not dragging rubbish down from other areas, we were still able to collect a lot of smaller rubbish that are particularly dangerous to animals, as they ingest them thinking they are food – items like cigarette butts, pieces of food wrappers, and straws.

A special thank you to Pak Tri, Pak Made, and the CCS maintenance team for arranging the collection our bags of waste so they could be picked up by EcoBali later in the afternoon at the school  And thanks to our Year 12 and 13 ESS students (Maya W, Khya, Charlie, Noa, Alia, and Shaun) who stayed a bit longer to help complete the trash collection survey for the Making Oceans Plastic Free organization.

If you were unable to join us this weekend, please consider joining other cleanups that take place regularly on the island – like and follow these groups on Facebook to receive regular updates on the events that they host:

  • Ocean Mimic hosts clean up every Saturday at 3 pm, beginning in front of Old Man’s
  • Trash Hero Canggu appears to host 1-2 cleanups every weekend
  • One Island, One Voice to keep on top of all of the great work they’re doing, and of course participate in this annual clean up for years to come!
