CCS Blog School Events

Throughout the school year, the CCS Library offers an escape for members of the school community – whether that be a more metaphorical getaway through the stories of the books we check out to our patrons; or a literal one, as students, parents, and teachers walk through our doors to avoid the heat outside. And honestly, during these weird and unprecedented times, it really sucks to not be able to welcome the members of the community day to day.

While we are not checking out books for personal use at the moment due to the potential risks involved, we are constantly looking for online reading resources, from ebooks, audiobooks, nonfiction articles, and beyond – to help provide that much needed “escape” from our current cumbersome reality. Please head to the Reading page on the CCS Library website to check out these resources from the safety and comfort of your homes. My personal favourite website right now – Harry Potter at Home!

We are also very excited to announce that we are planning a Virtual Book Week! Book Week 2020 was originally scheduled to take place in Week 3 of this term, but we had to go back to the drawing board thanks to our current global situation. We will now celebrate all things book-related in Week 9, June 2-5. Some activities we are excited to host:

Extreme Readers Photo Contest: this is an annual favourite, and no pandemic is going to keep it from happening. If you were able to grab your extreme reading photographs prior to the current isolation period – fantastic! If not, you can still catch an incredible photo at home or at a safe social distance in the great Bali outdoors (or wherever you may be located right now!). The photos included in this article are all past winners and all photos were taken at home! Contest rules and regulations will be sent out early next week.

Celebrity Readers: Primary classes can expect some special community guest readers integrated into their online lessons!

Isolation Readers Reviews: students and teachers will have a platform to share book reviews of either their favourite reads or what they’ve been able to read at home during this isolation period. Stay at home and read? A bookworm’s dream!

Book Cover Reenactments: check out this Instagram post by New York Public Library or search #BookCoverDouble to see examples of reenactments, and start planning your own! More details on this activity to come.

Book Character Dress-up Day (Secondary only – Primary will be hosting this day next week!): You may have to be a bit more creative this year in your costume designing with limited materials – but I believe in you Secondary students! I will have more details on the exact date for our dress-up day and how you will be showing off your creations to your peers.
