Dear CCS Parents and Community,

This week in the Newsletter we would like to highlight the CCS Value of Respect:
Respect: kind and open-minded people who respect themselves, others and the environment.
Our goal is that CCS students and community members model respect in all areas.  This includes developing a deep appreciation and respect for Indonesia as our host country (or home country for many!), as well as our natural environment overall.  This occurs through our Gotong Royong programme across the whole school, CAS (Creativity-Activity-Service) in IB, Indonesian Studies, and a range of other programmes and learning activities.

Today’s newsletter highlights a few recent activities and some upcoming opportunities that link to our value of Respect.  Year 4 students last week hosted children from SOLEMEN, organizing a range of fun activities and building respectful relationships.  Also, this coming weekend on Saturday, Feb 15 is an opportunity to engage in local issues and show respect for our environment through the annual “Bali’s Biggest Beach Cleanup.”  We hope to see many of you there!

This week is also a wonderful opportunity to show respect through our Swim Carnivals, running Wednesday through Friday.  Our teachers and coaches focus on helping students develop good sportsmanship: doing their best, cheering for one another, and both winning and losing with respect.  We look forward to seeing parents at the Swim Carnivals, and thank you for helping us role model respect and sportsmanship to our students!

Best Regards,
Keegan

Team CCS is Participating in Bali’s Biggest Clean Up THIS Saturday! By Emma Urban and Beth Ibrahim

Bali’s Biggest Clean Up, hosted by One Island, One Voice, is coming up this Saturday, February 15 – and CCS is getting involved!

If you’d like to join us, please register yourself and any other participants using the Google form that was sent out via email last week, as we need to inform One Island, One Voice of our volunteer numbers for their survey results. Students, teachers, parents, friends, and family – all are welcome.

If you have any rice bags that you would like to donate to the clean-up, there is a collection box in front of the library. PLEASE bring your own rice bags to this clean-up if you are participating.

We’ll be meeting at 8 am in front of Finns Beach Club on the Saturday – we hope to see you there!

FUN DAY with Year 4 and Children from SOLEMEN

Ms Rola Ghadban

On Friday, February 7, Year 4 organised a remarkable event that will not soon be forgotten.

What started as an idea to connect to our unit on child rights, evolved into an opportunity for students to make a meaningful impact in the community, by inviting Solemen to come spend time with us for a “Fun Day.”  We invited 10 children of various ages and disabilities to come to CCS for the day, where we planned an afternoon of activities, including music, art, kerupuk challenge and indoor games. Additionally, the students decided, as part of their action, that they would also try to raise money to help in whatever capacity they could to donate to those in need.  The students quickly took ownership of the project by making bags out of old shirts, creating beautiful jewellery, giving kindness messages and even designing stress balls. Some insisted on spending all their breaks working on their creations in preparation for the sale on Thursday.

Thanks to ALL the support or other students and parents, we managed to raise a total of 7, 350,000 Rupiah!  That’s enough to feed 10 families for a month. The students also donated and wrapped books, toys, clothes and games for the children which they proudly shared at the event. Our guests were in awe, sharing big smiles as their hands were full of presents.

But perhaps, more importantly, was the priceless message that was conveyed on the day of the event.  I am so proud of the love, kindness, and connections that were nurtured both ways.  As much as it was a great giving experience for our classes, it was for sure a huge receiving opportunity as well, as they were able to learn so much from this special experience. Many said on the way out  “This is the best Friday ever!”  Can’t think of a better way to end the week.

To top it all off, we received an email today from a wonderfully generous parent who was willing to MATCH our earnings.  That means we have now raised a total of over 15 MILLION Rupiah, enough to feed 20 FAMILIES for a month!

All moments like this, we are reminded there is no greater gift than to give.  Together we proved we can make a lasting impact.

Year 9 Indonesian studies is learning about celebration. They have looked at Chinese New Year and Galungan. They worked in groups to make a simple offering, called Canang Sari. Through this activity, they developed cultural awareness, understanding and respect of the local cultures. – Ms Rusmala.
