The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a youth achievement qualification which credits the students for their commitment to extracurricular activities.
The Award is currently offered in over 140 countries and it provides students with excellent experiences and really helps when applying to University or for jobs.
While working towards the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award the students must complete a Skill, a Service and a Physical Recreation every week to show that they are committed to their activities and that they are keen to take on new challenges and set themselves goals. The Award encourages students to try new things and to show that they have perseverance and resilience.
The Award culminates in two Adventurous Journeys (A practice journey and a qualifying journey). These are hiking and camping expeditions during which the students are as self-sufficient as possible, they must carry all their equipment, cook their own meals and navigate a route in their teams. This section of The Award is often a student’s favourite and they must demonstrate excellent teamwork skills to be successful. We provide the appropriate training for these trips including navigation skills, camp craft, cooking and first aid.
