Year 3 Learning “Diwali Day”
Year 3 had a guest last week and had the opportunity to learn about the Diwali festival. The students found out about the story, who celebrates and how they celebrate. Year 3 watched Indian dance performances by local students, celebrating ‘Diwali’ with flowers and lights, and tried Indian ‘Samosa’.
Year 11 Geography Field trip
Jelita, Luna, Kayla & Anna
Ms Atkinson & Ibu Neny
As a part of our IGCSE Geography class, we carried out an urban land use inquiry. This involved fieldwork, collecting data at six different sites along the road of Jl. Pantai Berawa, which will allow us to identify the influence of tourism on land use in Canggu. The data will also help us to identify which land use zone Berawa fits in and whether the land use models need adapting to be useful in Bali. We spent a total of around 4 hours collecting detailed data in the heat, including a traffic count, environmental quality and land use survey. Overall it was a great experience, having a real world experience outside of the classroom.
We were very proud to have these amazing delegates and officers participating in BaliMUN VIII over last weekend on 2nd and 3rd November at Green School. They have demonstrated their dedication to preparing for this event as well as to debating, collaborating, and being diplomatic when finding solutions related to the Sustainable Development Goals.
We would like to say huge congratulations to our fabulous MUN team. This year, 5 CCS students stepped up being chairs and co-chairs showing their great leadership and excellent communication skills. 10 delegates, new and experienced, kept pushing themselves out of their comfort zone and faced new challenges, while also having fun. We would especially like to congratulate two of our students: Lea Nizri (Year 9), who received the Leadership Award, and Sydney Eckstein (Year 11), who received The Best Delegate Award.
Please check out the students’ reflections below and get inspired! We are looking forward to seeing you participating in our upcoming MUN conferences!

Indosole x CCS x PNNY Community Assist Basketball Tournament 2019
By Emma Urban, CAS Coordinator
The second annual Community Assist 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament was held this past Saturday, November 9. We had twenty Adult Division and eight Youth Division teams registered to play this year. All proceeds from the tournament are being donated to The Shelter Project’s continued work in Lombok; and to Pulau Plastik, a plastic awareness campaign by Kopernik.
The concept behind this tournament was developed originally by Indosole’s product designer, Kai Paul. He envisioned a community event that brought people together, while also giving back to others. We’re incredibly honoured to collaborate with Kai, Indosole, and PNNY on a project with such a strong and admirable ethos.
Though we do not have the total amount of money fundraised just yet, we still have many thanks to give: to everyone who joined us on Saturday; to our 32 student and teacher volunteers; to our many community sponsors; to the teams at Indosole and PNNY/House of PNNY (Kai, Nakita, Nora, Marsha, and Chris); to our wonderful grounds staff (led by Pak Tri and Pak Made) and IT staff (especially Pak Dewa, who was with us throughout the day on Saturday); and to the CCS admin who supported the planning of this event (Mr. Combs and Mr. Henson). We’d also like to thank FoCCS for their donation towards the costs of running a tournament of this size.
Last year, this was a CAS Project led by three Year 12 students – Nour Hajjar, Kayla Elizabeth, and Leland Elliott. This year, these now Year 13 students acted as mentors of the project, and our CCS planning team grew to thirteen total student leaders: Jadie Mollison and Noa Vlasman were our Sponsorship Coordinators; Zoë Marshall, Gemma McLennan, and Bayley Blyther were Volunteer Coordinators; Kalila Eckstein and Michelle Robertson were Marketing Coordinators; Laura Pet and Jerrell Patru were Treasurers, and Nana Jao was Secretary. Massive congratulations to these students on all of their incredibly hard work over the past two months, and for completing a major requirement of their CAS programme!
Throughout the month of November. Some of the male staff at CCS will be participating in Movember. This is basically an awesome excuse to ‘attempt’ to grow a moustache. There is, of course, a super reason why this is happening and that is to draw attention to ‘Men’s Health’ issues, such as prostate and testicular cancer, men’s mental health and suicide prevention. For more information on what Movember is about, click here for details and stories. CCS Teachers taking part include Mr Henson, Mr Beaven, Mr Baccanello, Mr Steve, Mr Sandy, Mr Graham, Mr Collins, Mr Combs, Mr Yuda & Mr Gibson.
Each week students will get the opportunity to vote on their favourite and worst moustaches. The categories are:
1.Most abundant and prolific
All we ask is that each time students cast their vote that they donate Rp,2000 to their PC Teacher. Students will have the opportunity to vote each week after a brief showcase and inspection during assembly on Wednesdays and a photo update.
All money raised will be donated to the Movember charity of the ‘winning teachers choosing.
Big thanks to parents for supporting this initiative.
