Hello CCS Community!

I hope this update finds you and your family safe and healthy. I would first like to give a Big Shout Out to our teachers! They have been working tirelessly to support home learning and find innovative and creative ways to engage our students in this paradigm shift in learning. It is Teacher Appreciation Week where some of our teachers are from so please help me recognize all their hard work and dedication!

Thank you to our parents who organized lunch for our teachers to recognize the consistent efforts they are putting in to make home learning as easy as possible. This small gesture means a lot to us.

Two home learning resources I would like to highlight are the CCS Primary Launchpad and the CCS Secondary Sharks at Home. These parent and student portals were created to streamline communication and pull everything you need into one place. We are committed to continually enhancing our communities experience with home learning and this is another step in making access easier.

Our Primary program is excited to announce Project Inspire. These are six-week passion projects designed to get students excited and engaged about something new! Teachers and teacher assistants have designed these projects to develop creative thinking, pursue passions, try something new, and inspire. These optional and self-paced projects will be facilitated by teachers and teaching assistants who have designed the learning experiences with an action outcome. All Inspire Projects will be added to the CCS Primary Launchpad and include three guiding questions:

  • What is the project?
  • What skills will children develop?
  • What will the end outcome be?

There will be six weeks of lessons including tasks, skills in a mini-lesson, and outcomes. Teachers and teaching assistants will schedule an optional time once a week to Google Meet with students to support and share their passion. Please share these projects with your child and if they are interested in these optional experiences, you can sign them up here by Monday.

I appreciate the challenge that home learning can present for our families. Our children are just as uncertain as we are right now, they hear everything going on around them, and may feel our constant tension and anxiety. As a community, we have never experienced anything like this before. CCS is committed to facilitating social connections virtually and supporting the wellbeing of our community. If children are not socially and emotionally happy they have a hard time fulfilling their potential as learners. When we are back on the CCS campus in August, or possibly earlier, learning will flourish and CCS will continue to empower all students as balanced, respectful and engaged global citizens who achieve their full potential as lifelong learners.

Have a Happy Waisak Day,

Mr Ben
