Hello CCS Community,

Time continues to fly by as we moved past our 100th day of school! Although there always seems to be a lot going on, we are mindful of each day and each interaction we facilitate with your student and that it could potentially last a lifetime. The School-Wide Learner Expectation of Socially Responsible continues to be an embedded learning focus at CCS.

On Monday, CCS student council representatives met with the Juara Alam (sustainability) Committee. The focus of this meeting was a session to brainstorm student ideas on how to reduce the amount of waste we create on campus, as well as how we can best reduce, reuse, and recycle. If you are interested in learning more about Juara Alam or how you can support sustainability at CCS, please let me know.
Did you know that each Primary Unit of Inquiry contains a sustainability and/or Gotong Royong (service learning) connection?
In the current Year 4 Unit of Inquiry, students have been learning about the child’s rights and responsibilities.  In response, they have discussed what initiatives they could do on a local level to support and empower youth around them. Year 4 has decided to take action by teaming up with the charity group Solemen, and offering a Fun Day planned for by the students on Friday, February 7.  Solemen is a charity group focusing on assisting the disadvantaged in Bali. In preparation, to help raise the money they have worked on making bags and other student made initiatives which will be sold at school on Thursday, February 6. Please send money with your child if you would like to help support them.

Save the date:

Please join us in this Friday’s assembly at 1:30 pm which will be hosted by Year 2 with a sustainability focus.

School Shop Sustainable Practices - by Nadia

Through persistence and creative problem-solving, CCS’s Finance/School Shop Team and Juara Alam have devised a useful solution to plastic packaging for school uniforms. The newly-introduced reusable paper wrapping keeps the uniforms in great condition while avoiding much of the plastic waste that was created with the previous plastic bag packaging. Thank you, team!

Student Council and CCS Sustainability Committee - by Nadia

This week, student council representatives met with members of Juara Alam, the CCS sustainability committee, to discuss sustainability at school. Students brainstormed ideas on how to improve waste management practices at school including reducing paper towel usage and how to remind everyone to separate their trash properly using the recycle bins. Students also enthusiastically shared what sustainability means to them, and what part they, as leaders of the school, play in promoting sustainability at our school campus.

Year 1 Celebrating 100th Day of School

Year 1 celebrated the 100th day of school on Thursday, January 30th. Their activities focused around this very special number. The students enjoyed making glasses shaped like 100 and counting by tens to make their 100th Day celebration hats.

To celebrate the 100th Day of School, Year 1T went on a scavenger hunt to find 100 Hershey Kisses chocolates. On the bottom of each one, there was a number between 1-100. The students had to match it to the 100 number chart before they could eat them. We couldn’t believe we ate 100 Hershey’s Kisses!
