On Tuesday last week, CCS staff held our 4th Annual Clothing Exchange – and it was the biggest one yet! Staff members bring gently used and previously loved clothing, shoes, and accessories into school. On the day of the exchange, staff members “shop” and select clothing that is a good fit for them or their families.
We love this day for both the opportunity to socialise with each other and the positive environmental impacts. Did you know that it takes more than 2,700 litres of water to make just one cotton t-shirt (World Wildlife Federation)? According to Forbes, the fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world, behind only the oil industry. By trading second-hand clothing, we are reducing the number of items that end up in landfills and the microfibres that end up in oceans and waterways. An added bonus is that it is easy on our bank accounts too!
All unclaimed clothing is donated to the Yayasan Senyum (the Smile Foundation), which they will sell in their second-hand clothing shop. Proceeds from the shop go to the Yayasan, which funds medical care for children in need of craniofacial surgery. Learn more at http://www.senyumbali.org/.
Thank you to everyone who participated!
