Simon Gibson – Secondary Maths
I was born and grew up at Bondi Beach in Sydney. My passions are music, Maths, surfing, and reading. I also love travelling and good coffee. I have a keen interest in the preservation of the natural environment, especially the ocean and the increasing threat to it from man-made pollutants. I’ve been a maths teacher for over 20 years and have lived and worked in Australia and Vietnam. I’ve also taught English and music. I play drums, guitar, ukulele and enjoy writing songs. I’m extremely excited to join Canggu Community School and settle in Bali. I’m really looking forward to starting the next chapter of my life in such a beautiful and friendly place like Bali and CCS!
Anita Sumarto – Year 2
Hi, my name is Anita Sumarto. I was born in Vietnam, grew up in Sydney Australia and am now living in Bali. I completed my Bachelor of Primary Teaching and my Bachelor of Education at the University of New South Wales. Over the years, I have developed many skills while working in diverse educational settings. My educational experiences include teaching students who displayed challenging behaviour, were from low socio-economic backgrounds, were achieving below stage outcomes and required individualised learning programs for both literacy and numeracy, as well as high achieving students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Two years ago my husband and I made the decision to relocate to Bali along with our 4 children. Our kids range from the ages of 9 to 17 and have been attending CCS for the last 2 years. I’ve been a parent of CCS and now I’m excited to be joining the CCS staff.
Adam Smith – Year 6
Hello, I’m Adam Smith, Year 6 teacher. I have been teaching across primary for 14 years, from Reception to Year 6. My teaching career started in Canterbury, UK before moving to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam for three years. I then returned to the UK for a brief stint, before 6 years in Munich, Germany.
My teaching ethos is that learning should be fun and engaging. I hope my classroom is an environment that the pupils enjoy. The goal is to nurture the joy to be had from learning and discovering new ideas. I put a lot of emphasis on respect; respect of each other and of our environment.
I will be moving to Bali with my wife, Karin, who is from Germany. She isn’t a teacher. During my free time, I love to read, snorkel, hike, boulder, and engage in any sporting activities. I also love to travel, explore new things and new places. My new challenges will be learning to surf and learning Indonesian!
